EcoCraft Activity in Ilok: From Waste to Wellness and Ecological Solutions

From October 16–18, 2025, Srednja škola Ilok hosted the second mobility of the Erasmus+ project EcoCraft: Integrating Sustainable Food, Wine, and Environmental Practices, welcoming students and teachers from Agronomska škola Zagreb and Agrupamento de Escolas Pinheiro e Rosa (Faro, Portugal).

This activity, titled “From Waste to Wellness and Ecological Solutions”, focused on sustainability, zero-waste practices, and eco-innovation through a combination of practical workshops, educational visits, and cultural experiences.

Day 1 – October 16, 2025: Sustainability and Wine Heritage

The mobility began with a warm welcome by Headmaster Željko Prskalo and a school tour of vineyards, gardens, greenhouses, and the agricultural laboratory.
Participants attended partner presentations and then took part in a workshop on eco-friendly packaging, where they created beeswax wraps for food storage.
In the afternoon, students and teachers visited Iločki podrumi, the region’s largest winery, exploring its 15th-century wine cellar and learning about traditional winemaking.
The day concluded with a visit to KAST Winery, where participants compared traditional and modern approaches to sustainable wine production.

Day 2 – October 17, 2025: From Bioenzymes to Modern Wine Practices

The second day focused on practical eco-production and field experiences. Students participated in an apple juice presentation and production workshop, learning how to make natural apple juice without any additives or preservatives, promoting healthy nutrition and sustainable fruit processing.
Later in the day, participants visited TRS Winery, where they explored modern and innovative winemaking techniques.
The afternoon included a trip to Vukovar, featuring a visit to Vukovarska kuća, Adica Adventure Park, and the Vukovar Water Tower, offering both cultural and recreational experiences.

Day 3 – October 18, 2025: Bioenzymes and Eco Farm Experience

The final day began with a presentation and hands-on workshop on bioenzyme production, where participants learned how to create natural cleaning and plant-care solutions from fruit leftovers.
Afterward, the group visited the school’s own wine cellar, gaining insight into small-scale educational winemaking, followed by a tour of Knezović Winery, known for its family-based production methods.
In the afternoon, the participants visited the eco-farm “Orlov put”, where they discovered sustainable farming practices, enjoyed local organic products, and experienced a carriage ride through nature. The day concluded with a farewell dinner and certificate ceremony, celebrating international cooperation and friendship.

Cultural and Recreational Program

Throughout the mobility, participants explored Ilok’s historic Old Town, city walls, and the Church of St. John of Capistrano, as well as enjoyed a tourist train ride through the picturesque vineyards.
Recreational activities also included adventure sports in Vukovar and karting in Osijek, providing a perfect balance between education, culture, and fun.
